PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.

Explore the GSS codebook/website further to determine what topics may be of interest to YOU. Please type out responses to the following questions below.

1. Using the GSS codebook or GSS variable search as a reference (http://www3.norc.org/GSS+Website/Browse+GSS+Variables/Subject+Index/), please list 5 potential topics YOU would like to explore for the research project (i.e. what would you like your dependent variable to be? What about your independent variable?)

2. Operationalize the topics by FINDING variables in the GSS. LIST 5 INDEPENDENT VARIABLES and 5 DEPENDENT VARIABLES that could work for the topics YOU selected
3. Give THE VARIABLE NAME (i.e. AMFEEL), and a SHORT DESCRIPTION (i.e. How important the R thinks it is to “feel American.”) FOR EACH variable.

**Note: Think about putting the topics in terms of attitudes/beliefs or behaviors. Some GSS questions ONLY ask about attitudes/beliefs, and not about behaviors. Be sure to notice this as you’re searching through the variables.

4. Provide 5 HYPOTHESES/PREDICTIONS based on the topic you have selected and the INDEPENDENT VARIABLES and DEPENDENT VARIABLES you are using to address the topic (i.e. if your topic is the relationship between religiosity (DV) and education level (IV) your prediction might be: the more education one has the less religious they become).
